Biography
Kyoshi Chuck Phillips is a sixth generation instructor with lineage directly from Anko Itosu, the Grandfather of Modern Karate. He began his martial arts journey over three decades ago, driven by a passion for self-improvement and a desire to help others discover their potential. His dedication to traditional karate and commitment to his students have made him a respected figure in the Minnesota martial arts community.
With extensive training in traditional Japanese karate systems, as well as training and rank in judo, goshin-jitsu, krav maga, and kobudo, Kyoshi Phillips has developed a teaching philosophy that emphasizes not just physical technique, but the development of character, confidence, and life skills. His approach combines rigorous traditional training with compassionate instruction, creating an environment where students feel challenged yet supported.
Beyond his technical expertise, Kyoshi Phillips is known for his ability to connect with students of all ages and backgrounds. Whether working with young children taking their first steps in martial arts or adults seeking personal transformation, he brings patience, wisdom, and genuine care to every class.
Teaching Philosophy
"Karate is not just about learning to kick and punch. It is about developing focus, self-discipline, respect, and the confidence to face life challenges. Every student who walks through our doors has the potential for greatness. My job is to help them discover it."
